REOF was set up to assist the development of healthy communities return to their previous levels of existence, let alone achieve a modicum of positive change and move towards development. With a sharp drop in the number of NGOs providing assistance, these challenges have increased in the recent past, ranging from lack of basic services to a psycho-sociological disorientation whereby the long-held community spirits of self-reliance and general pride have been replaced by habits of dependency, lack of hard work and youth disorientation. For things to turn around then, there must be meaningful strategic interventions by committed stakeholders that can support, direct and encourage these communities through manifold approaches so that they can begin to achieve what should essentially go beyond basic personal needs. It calls for partners with a clear understanding of the socio-cultural settings where these problems exist and with a clear vision of how to help these communities.
