North Shield Football Club

NCFC is a unique football club based in Gulu, Northern Uganda under Rwot Esau Okello Foundation.

As a foundation and social enterprise, our mission is to change the lives and long-term prospects of vulnerable young people in Uganda particularly in Northern Uganda recovery from war. Through a wide range of social development, recreational and educational benefit to children, activities focused on health and support towards sustainable livelihood.

The overall goal is to create an elite group of sportsmen and women that can compete at national and global levels.   Through the academy, NSFC is building partnerships with top youth clubs around the country through an everyday environment designed to produce the next generation of team players.  The academy’s programming philosophy is high quality training and an instilled spirit of competiveness in games.

The Impact:

Since 2015 NSFC has reached more than 150 disadvantaged children and young people through a wide range of activities from health education and advocacy of HIV, Nodding Decease awareness, mentioning and support towards long-term education and employment. 


Football coaching

Developing the football skills of the participants is key to them ultimately securing academic and soccer scholarship.  As such they receive daily football coaching from a highly qualified coach at the NSFC centre.

The approach to coaching also helps to strengthen life-skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

What is the academy?

The NSFC academy is our flagship programme, providing vulnerable children and young people with intensive academic support, football coaching and character development, with the aim of support participants to student – athletic scholarships at international Universities.  Through the Academy, we aim to genuinely transform the aim of participants and have a measurable impact on the long-term sustainable development of Uganda.

The Academy has embarked on vigorous campaign to secure funds for supporting its aims and objectives which include

  1. Advancing Football as a profession in Acholiland and neighbouring areas;

a) Ensuring that the youngsters have the opportunity to acquire basic technique and kills of the game;

b) Ensuring that every young participant with ability has the opportunity to improve their standards of performance and fulfil their potential;

c) Ensuring that everyone with ability has the opportunity to reach the highest standard of football excellence;

d) Protecting and developing the moral and ethical basis of football and the human dignity and safety of those involved by safeguarding the game, both male and female players from exploitation for political, commercial and financial and financial gain from practices that are abusive or debasing, including the abuse of drugs.

  1. Contributing to relief of poverty, sickness, disease and family cohesion
  2. Advancing Education and Training of the communities.
